The pictureless allotment blog

No photo today. Sorry. I’ve had no bloody time to get out on the plot.

The first working day after the clocks go back is the worst day of the year for me. Bar none.

I’m a mole now for five months. Getting up in darkness, coming home in darkness. No natural light for 22 weeks. I can’t tell you how deeply depressed this makes me.

So just ignore me for a bit. I’ll be back to my usual miserable self in a week or two.

I can sympathize! I’ve only done one week of working nights, getting 2 hours of daylight and I feel snappy!

Ugh! isn’t it grim….. first frost last night too. Forgot to put some of the more precious plants in the greenhouse as it was dark and late by the time got home… Soilman, bring on the 21st December… then it gets better.

I spent a couple of years in a windowless office. It didn’t bother me too much, but one of my colleagues was, like you, very sensitive to lack of daylight and was deeply depressed until we got one of those full-spectrum lamps. It was the wonder of our building – people came from far and wide to have a look at our ‘sun’. If you’re based in one location I can highly recommend getting one. We got the organisation to pay for it as a health and safety issue, I think.

Oh I hate this time of year for the darkness. I have a 9-5 job in an office, so I don’t feel like I see the sun at all, or I won’t in a couple of weeks. I haven’t been in England for a couple of years now so I haven’t had it as bad, but it’s really getting to me at the minute!!
