Sunset? Never!

sunsetSTILL haven’t got to the plot. STILL suffering full-time builders. And it’s STILL ‘going to be ready by Christmas’.

OMG.

I’m going to see the worst on Saturday. It won’t be pretty. There will be acres and acres of chest-high weed and for 10 minutes I’ll feel like a lazy, thumping failure.

But then I’ll pick myself up, get digging and clear it again. Because when you’re a vegetable gardener, that’s what you do.

I need to do the same – loads of weeds to pull AND stuff to plant arrived today. Eek!

My plot has become a fat hen plantation since I dug it over. So I cut it all down and up and covered it in cardboard. I’m hoping the worms will do the rest before Spring. Worth a try !

    Hi Soilman

When I got my new lotty at the end of August (when we had that dry spell I am sure you will remember) my new plot was covered in 12 months of growth.

I was ready for the big dig and then some genius suggested burning it where it stood – and that is what I did – I was a bit worried the whole site might have gone up in flames – but with a weed gun and a controlled burn (controlled means keeping my fingers crossed)I actually did manage to burn off approx 80% of the plot before the rains returned.

I can see where arsonists get there pleasure in watching those little flames trying to jump from my plot to the next but I did manage to do it.

I will admit there was a small amount of wood damage to the existing raised beds but a couple of buckets of water soon put this out.

And finally whilst the fires died done it was a real pleasure being the only person on the plot watching those darling red beaked parrots stripping the other plot holders fruit and made me realise the pleasures I had to come.

    Very satisfying

    Good Luck
